Greene King has launched a virtual tour of its historic brewery at Bury St Edmunds.

The Suffolk brewing giant, dating back to 1799, is offering visitors a taste of its home via a new brewery website which includes a fully interactive 3D tour of the brewery, taking them from the 1930s art deco entrance and onto all six floors of the gravity-fed brewery.

The tour encompasses its impressive giant copper mash tuns, taking in its water tanks, hop store, running mills, malt screens and hoppers. The www.greenekingbrewery.co.uk website also features information on its beers, history and news.

Managing director Matt Starbuck said it was “a fantastic tool”. “It really captures the essence of the brewery. We brew half a million pints of beer a day at the brewery which is highly reliant on the skill of our team,” he said. “Our brewers today use some of the same equipment their fathers and grandfathers used before them.”

He added: “We love to show visitors around the brewery as we know it’s absolutely unique, but of course not everyone can visit Bury St Edmunds. This way, viewers can get a taste of our brewery tour experience without stepping foot out of their home.”
