A union has welcomed “cast-iron assurances” over job security at a printers known for producing the Harry Potter series.

Unite said it was pleased management at Bungay-based Clays, which employs 700 people, had been able to reassure workers of their future following the company’s acquisition by Italian printing group Elcograf.

It follows a pledge given to this newspaper by the company after the announcement on Tuesday.

Unite regional officer Mark Walker said: “Unite has today received cast iron assurances from the Clays management about future job security, following the acquisition by the Elcograf Group.

“Unite represents the majority of employees at the company, many of whom live locally.

“We are satisfied that the long term future of the Bungay site in Suffolk is secure and our members’ jobs are protected.”
