DARREN Bent is on the verge of joining Aston Villa for �18 million, according to reports.
The Sunderland striker, and former Ipswich Town hero, is reportedly in the Midlands today discussing terms in what would be a shock move between the Premier League rivals.
A short statement on the Sunderland website confirmed that Bent had handed in a written transfer after yesterday’s 1-1 derby match against Newcastle.
Bent, 26, who has been capped six times for England, scored 25 goals for Sunderland in a fantastic personal season last year and is the top scorer this term with 12 goals in 23 league and cup matches.
