The EADT says...Slow roadworks need speeding up
We've all been there - stuck in a traffic jam caused by seemingly never-ending roadworks, only to pass them and see little work going on at all.
And now Suffolk County Council has admitted what many of us already suspected - that it has faced problems co-ordinating work being done by utility firms like gas and electricity.
Most people understand that roadworks have to take place from time to time, especially if it prevents problems and longer road closures later down the line.
If they are communicated well in advance, many drivers will quite happily find a different route home or to work, or allow that little bit of extra time for their journeys.
Yet so often there is a feeling that those things do not happen and that the first people find out about them is when they are stuck in a jam.
It is good that Suffolk County Council has recognised the concerns and is doing something about the problem.
Let’s hope it happens soon - because snarled up traffic is not good for tourism, business or our stress levels.
