BRAINTREE Town chairman Lee Harding insisted the right decision was made after Iron’s First Round FA Cup tie with Tranmere was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Iron were in line to make an additional 63,000 from the game, due to the tie being aired on ITV, and it thought the terrestrial TV company is still keen to cover the game, with a week on Tuesday being touted a possible date for the rescheduled fixture.

Harding – while disappointed with the washout – had no complaints with referee Dean Whitestone’s decision.

Covers have been on the Cressing Road pitch since Tuesday and were only removed just over an hour before kick-off.

However, surface water from the covers added to water that was emerging from underneath the surface, created a swamp-like surface, according to Harding.

“The referee has made the right decision, I have no complaints really, and we have had two heavy downpours in Braintree in the last eight days, both of which have come within a few hours of kick-off. It happens and we go again,” said Harding.

“It’s frustrating but that’s the nature of it and we now start looking at re-arranging the fixture. I would have thought that would be in the next week or two.”
