If so, you'll know just how much effort it takes for everyone to pull together - and how likely you are to end up with sore hands.

You are also extremely likely to end up lying on the ground, which at countryside events in particular can often mean getting covered in mud.

In today's Days Gone By we are looking back at tug-of-war contests around Suffolk during the 1970s and 80s. Can you spot yourself or anyone you know taking part?

The sport is believed to date back 4,000 years, and was known in ancient Egypt and Greece before being taken up by British sailors in the 19th century.

It was also an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1920, but was then dropped from the Games.
