A driving force behind Colchester’s beautiful public spaces has been named a community champion.

Pam Schomberg, chairman of Colchester in Bloom, was recognised for going above and beyond for making this year’s campaign a success.

As previously reported, Colchester was awarded a Silver Gilt medal in the “small city” category of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom UK Finals.

Judges were impressed by its “large green spaces, wonderful trees and permanent planting, show beds and special features.”

Ms Schomberg said: “Sherry Hodgson and I were over the moon with our results. The judges could not have spoken more highly of our town and especially the Castle Park, which they said was the highlight of their tour. I thank all the In Bloom team for the time and hard work they put in throughout the year, and well done all the folk at Castle Park.”

Halstead was joint winner in the “town” category.
