Memory

My earliest memory of Suffolk was at the age of 11 and being sent to school in Felixstowe. I had never been there before or even heard of Felixstowe. I didn’t know then that after many years of living in London I would then be back in Suffolk and enjoying every minute but now dreading the A12 going in the other direction!

Landmark

Bury St Edmunds Cathedral – wow what a building. This cathedral originates from the 11th century and is bigger now than when it was originally built due to parts being added on over the years but I love the fact that it has evolved whilst still retaining it’s beauty. As in a lot of churches the architecture and decoration is stunning. It’s also wonderful that the gardens are used by young and old. Grab a coffee and just while away some time there.

Beach

I’m not really sure this could be classed as a beach but we spend a lot of time walking along the river Orwell where there are various sandy spots. It’s wild in places and often cold from the wind that whips its way along the river, but it’s quiet and interesting. The dogs love it as they can swim and sniff their way along the walk and I just love the fact that it’s not perfect.

Day out/attraction

The Suffolk Punch Trust in Woodbridge was founded to help protect this endangered Suffolk horse. It raises awareness of these fabulous beasts – if you love horses then this is the day out for you.

Place to eat

The Crown & Castle at Orford is a great place to eat – we are often accompanied by our dogs and they have a special dog table where you can enjoy lunch or dinner with your four-legged friend at your feet. The food is delicious, and they have a separate vegetarian menu which is always a bonus.

Export

It’s difficult to pinpoint one export from Suffolk – we have the best of everything right here in the county. From food to music we seem to have it all, which is what makes it such a great place to live and visit.

Village/Town

This is a tough one as there are so many beautiful villages in Suffolk. I am often looking for pretty villages in other counties and always come back to what we have on our doorstep. Lavenham, Kersey, Clare, Chelsworth – they are all worth a mention and a visit but of course Lavenham is the village that I live and work in and so that has to be at the top of the list for me. A vibrant village jam-packed with places to eat, shops to visit and so many beautiful buildings to admire – there really is something for everyone.

Shop

I love a browse around Snape Maltings – it has a wonderful collection of galleries and boutiques full of interesting items plus in the summer it hosts a month-long music festival. Those coupled with the fact you can take the dogs for a lovely walk along the Alde Estuary means it’s a perfect day out for me.
