MORE than 1,000 jobs are to be axed at insurance giant Aviva, it emerged today.

Union Unite said it had been told offices in York and Norwich will be worst hit by the cuts - some 1,100 posts are to go - although other sites across the UK will also suffer losses.

Derek Simpson, the union's joint leader, said the news would cause “alarm across the industry.”
