TWO planes are understood to have collided in a mid-air accident at an airshow in Cambridgeshire.
Reports of an incident at Duxford Imperial War Museum have been confirmed but the museum has yet to give details.
The museum is hosting its annual and popular Flying Legends event this weekend.
It is thought the mid-air collision involved two planes, one being a P-51 Mustang. Only one plane was reported to have got into difficulty.
The pilot is said to have parachuted to safety and the pilot of the other plane was uninjured.
Eyewitnesses reported two planes “wobbling” in mid-air resulting in one of them losing part of a wing.
Stuart Cox, who saw one of the damaged planes come in to land, said spectators heard a “loud collision”.
He said: “I only saw one of the involved planes coming into land.
“No one near me saw it but we heard a loud collision. It was only when I got home to look at my pictures I noticed the damage to this plane, a AD4N Skyraider US Navy RM-24143.
“I think the plane that came down was a P51 Mustang - the pilot bailed out as far as I know.”
