A jealous man who attacked a woman in her home, resulting in her being found unconscious and bleeding from a head wound on the kitchen floor by her children, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Kurt Hinchcliffe-Stephen had pushed the victim forcefully during a row after he accused her of seeing other men, causing her to fall backwards on to a metal clothes dryer, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

She ended up unconscious and bleeding from a 7cm wound on the back of her head on her kitchen floor where she was found by her children who raised the alarm with a neighbour, said John Livingston, prosecuting.

The woman was taken to hospital where she had five sutures in the wound.

On another occasion, Hinchcliffe-Stephen and the same woman had an argument at his home and he had dragged her out of bed by her ankles.

She got dressed and he had then dragged her out of the house by her feet and ankles where she was found by a neighbour who called the police.

As a result of the incident the woman suffered bruising and grazing.

Hinchcliffe-Stephen, 37, of James School Place, Bury St Edmunds, admitted two offences of assault causing bodily harm which were committed earlier this year and was given an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He was also given a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and banned him from contacting the victim or going to her home in Bury St Edmunds for five years.

He was also ordered to wear a GPS electronically monitored tag for six months.

Sentencing him, Recorder John Gallagher described the assaults as “thoroughly unpleasant” and said the victim must have been “frightened out of her wits”.

He said her children must also have been “absolutely terrified”.

Steven Dyble, for Hinchcliffe-Stephen, said his client had no previous conviction for violence and had been in custody for six months.
