Pauline Horrigan, likely to be one of the country’s oldest drink drivers, was given a 14-month ban after the incident on Sunday, June 3.

Her Audi collided with the bollards and lamppost in Abbot’s Road, Colchester, with Horrigan - of Coast Road, West Mersea - blowing 47 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath in a roadside test.

The legal limit of 35mg in 100ml of breath.

Horrigan was also fined during her appearance at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 9.

PC Allan Discombe, of Stanway Roads Policing Unit, said: “I think this case goes to show, no matter your age, we will not accept driving under the influence.

“This summer, we continue to remind people of this crucial message with our #DriveSafeDriveSober campaign.

“It doesn’t matter how much alcohol you can have in your system, we still encourage people across Essex not to get behind the wheel of a car if you’ve had something to drink.”

Those with information about someone driving under the influence should call police on 101.
