Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals jailed in Suffolk and north Essex courts in May.

Two car sales managers who were involved in over £300,000 of fraud were jailed for a combined total of over seven years.

Patrick Burke, 52, of Combes Wood Green, Stowmarket, and David Garrett, 36, of Goldfinch Drive, Attleborough were involved in a £343,000 fraud with trade-in cars which were sold privately. Over a period of 10 months 67 part exchange vehicles were sold and false sales invoices were created to cover what was going on. Burke was jailed for 45 months and Garrett for 40 months.

A drug dealer who was found with a kilo of cocaine was jailed for nearly five years.

Joe Lee, 29, of Cranham Road, Little Waltham, was sentenced to four years and eight months after being found with a kilo of cocaine, worth £30,000, and with around £50,000 in cash. Lee admitted possessing the Class A drug with the intent to supply.

A dangerous driver who drove his car at a couple was jailed for a year and four months.

Andrew Reilly, 28, of Notley Road in Lowestoft, drove his car at a couple who complained about his driving. Mr and Mrs Stringer witnessed Reilly drive the wrong way round a roundabout, do a handbrake turn, ram their van and shunt another vehicle out of the way. Reilly also swung a punch at Mr Stringer and ran from the police.

A drug dealer who was found with heroin, cannabis, DMT and cocaine was jailed for almost three years.

Mohammed Choudry, 21, of Regent Street, Handsworth, was arrested when police received reports of suspicious behaviour in Braintree, Choudry became agitated and tried to resist officers when he was detained for a drug search. He was sentenced to two years and eight months.

A man who attacked a stranger with a glass was jailed for one year and four months.

Lisle Mowles, 28, of Clopton Gardens, Hadleigh, glassed a stranger in the face when he was drunk in Ipswich. He was arrested by officers on patrol who saw him covered in blood. The stranger, Mr Ball, suffered cuts to the top of his eye, below his eye, a cut to the side of the head and had a perforated ear drum.

A drunk driver was jailed for a year after being involved in a high speed police chase.

Thomas Stevens, 34, of Coggeshall Road, Stisted, was nearly three times the drink-drive limit when he drove at more than 70mph in a 30mph zone. He was then involved in a police chase which lasted for several miles, it ended when Stevens’ vehicle became stuck in a ditch.

A burglar who raided three homes in one day was jailed for three years.

Robert Davanzo, 24, of Spring Sedge Close, Stanway, admitted burgling the homes before he was caught following a police pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

A man who attacked a woman in a nightclub was jailed for three years.

John Kamela, 26, of no fixed address, repeatedly punched a woman in the face when she rejected his advances. Lacey Knight, who he attacked, suffered swelling to her forehead, a black eye, multiple fractures to the cheek bones and jaw.

A Suffolk conman who took over £50,000 off victims was jailed for four years.

David Aves, 59, of Freewood Street, Bradfield St George, would sell items on Gumtree which were never sent to the buyer. In total Aves took £54,650 over a six month period from 11 victims.

A man who tried to set fire to his wife was jailed for 14 years.

Vytis Grigatitis, 44, Nansen Road, Ipswich, hit his wife in the face causing her to fall to the ground, he then dragged her towards a wheelie bin and covered her head in bleach and petrol. Grigatitis held on to the victim while trying to spark a lighter when that failed he then poured fuel on himself and set it alight.

A man who punched someone in the face which resulted in the victim having fractures was jailed for almost two years.

Richard Cousins, 26, of Austin Drive, Trumpington, approached his victim in a pub and punched him, the victim was then treated in hospital for a fractured cheek bone and eye socket. Cousins was jailed for one year and nine months.

A burglar caught searching through Christmas presents was jailed for more than three years.

John Murton, 38, of Arne Court, Laindon, was caught red-handed by police as he searched through a bag of wrapped presents in the hallway of a property in Chelmsford.

A man who admitted manslaughter was jailed for five years.

David-Lee Conlan, 31, of Childs Lane, Stansted Mountfitchet, admitted manslaughter after pushing Kieron O’Rourke to the ground outside a Dumnow pub. Mr O’Rourke hit his head and died from a brain injury 10 days later.

A man who pleaded guilty to ten child sex offences was jailed for ten years.

Dennis Bullard, 73, of Chaney Road, Wivenhoe, pleaded guilty to ten counts of indecent assault dating back to the 80s and 90s, two of the offences related to two children under the age of 13.
