Driver cut out of car as accident causes long queues on A11

A serious crash on the A11 south-bound caused traffic to come to a standstill for several miles.

A serious incident on the A11 south-bound caused traffic to come to a standstill for several miles.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews were called to the single vehicle crash and released one female casualty by removing the roof of the car with specialist cutting equipment. She was left in the care of the Ambulance service.

They were called at 4.41pm and three fire engines attended the incident near Barton Mills in Suffolk near Thetford and Mildenhall.

At 6.10pm Highways England posted on Twitter that there are long delays in both directions as well as on the A1101 and A1065.

At 7pm AA traffic news reported one lane is closed between the B1106 and A1101 Bury Road, affecting traffic between Elvedon and Barton Mills.

Several drivers posted on Twitter while stuck in traffic commenting on the tailback and even admiring the view.

At 8.04pm Suffolk Police said the road was clear.
