TRAFFIC chaos has gripped Colchester as the A12 is closed for a bridge demolition to be carried out.
The main trunk road was closed at 5am on Saturday and was due to reopen at 5am on Monday from the Ardleigh Crown interchange to the Spring Lane junction at Stanway.
But as three times the usual number of cars tried to travel through Colchester town centre traffic became gridlocked.
Customers at Asda on Turner Rise were stuck in the car park for two hours, with some abandoning their vehicles and walking home.
