POLICE officers in Essex are appealing for witnesses today after a crash on the A12.

POLICE officers in Essex are appealing for witnesses today after a crash on the A12.

The accident happened on the Colchester-bound carriageway of the road at Witham about 9pm yesterday.

An item was thrown from the window of a silver van, and caused a motorcyclist to swerve, lose control, and collide with the central barrier.

The van had the words 'Enterprise Rental' written across the back.

The 45-year-old rider of the green Suzuki and his 45-year-old wife who was a pillion passenger, both from Colchester, were taken to Colchester Hospital.

He was admitted with arm and leg fractures, and she was released after treatment. The carriageway was closed for about one hour and 20 minutes.
