A road was closed near Woodbridge earlier because of the potential for cows to escape.
The northbound A12 between the roundabouts with Ipswich Road and Grundisburgh Road was shut because of the animals attempted bid for freedom.
Motorists were being directed through Woodbridge instead and there were delays in the area as a result.
By around 10.30am the cows had been rounded up and moved to a field safely away from the carriageway, which was reopened.
