A woman was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious road crash on the A12 at Marks Tey.
An elderly woman is still in a serious condition in hospital today following the accident on the A12 yesterday.
She was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, with serious injuries to her arms and legs, after a car overturned on the northbound carriageway, about 500 metres north of the Marks Tey junction, at 3.25pm.
Another woman who suffered serious head injuries was taken to hospital by ambulance but is said to be recovering well today.
A further three people were also transferred to hospital but were thought to be less severely injured.
The collision blocked both the north and southbound carriageways.
Police closed the southbound road to allow the air ambulance to land and fly a woman, whose exact age is yet unconfirmed, to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in what was then described as a life-threatening condition.
The northbound road remained closed well into the evening and some reports suggested there were ten mile tailbacks as traffic continued to build up.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the car overturn to contact them urgently by calling the Stanway Roads Policing team on 0300 333 4444.
