HIGH winds and heavy rain are causing hazardous conditions on the road – with one car hitting a tree that came down on the A14 earlier today.

The accident happened on the slip road approaching the westbound carriageway at junction 44, the Bury Eastern Interchange at around 6.25am.

Suffolk police have issued a warning to all motorists to take care in the dangerous conditions.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “There was a tree which came down in the high winds and a car hit the tree.

“The driver suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to hospital for a check up.

“Recovery crews and highways are en route to clear the road so it shouldn’t be blocked for much longer.

“There is a weather warning out concerning high winds and heavy rain, until about 1pm today.

“We would urge drivers to take care on the roads, slow dow and drive to the conditions.”
