MOTORISTS are facing miserable tail-backs along the A14 tonight after two heavy lorries collided near Newmarket.

The accident happened at 6.45pm on the A14 westbound between the British Horse Racing School and the A142 flyover.

Three lanes are currently blocked still, though police have implemented a coned system to lead traffic through the vehicle in a single lane.

A container on one of the lorries is hanging off, causing problems for recovery.

Large scores of traffic were being diverted through Kentford.

A 50-year-old man sustained a head injured during the crash but paramedics have said it is not life-threatening and have been treating him at the scene.

Inspector Bruce Gent, of Suffolk Constabulary, urged drives to avoid the area while they cleared the lorries from the carriageway.

It was thought the road would not be open until 1am but now police are saying they are removing the lorries and hope to reopen all three lanes by midnight.
