AN accident which happened on the A14 earlier today, has now been cleared after six hours.

Motorists were told to avoid the area of Risby following a collision between a lorry, van and bus on the Felixstowe-bound carriageway at 7.15am.

The collision of the three vehicles, including a single-decker bus that had broken down, caused the lorry to jack-knife and tip over. As a result both lanes were blocked for several hours while emergency services attended the scene. A crane was needed to recover the lorry from the carriageway.

The lorry driver was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. He was then taken to the West Suffolk Hospital by a crew from the East of England Ambulance Trust and it is thought he may be suffering from serious injuries.

Two more ambulances containing two patients, believed to be on the bus at the time, were also taken to West Suffolk Hospital with head and neck injuries.
