A LIFEBOAT was called into action in front of thousands of people this afternoon.

The Lowestoft lifeboat was called out at 2.15pm to reports of a broken down fishing vessel close to the harbour.

Many people attending the Lowestoft Seafront Air festival saw the rescue.

Mike Richford, of Lowestoft lifeboat, said: “This was in full view of everybody at the air show. Lots of people were saying that it is an exercise but it was for real.”

The vessel was towed into the harbour by the lifeboat and the incident was over at 3.15pm. Nobody was injured.
