Follye Fair recalled travelling shows dating back centuries

It was an event which harked back to an earlier time, giving visitors an insight into rural entertainment of the past.
The Heveningham Follye Fayre was organised by the East Anglian Arts Trust and Albions Fairs and featured a range of attractions, some dating back to medieval times, including traditional fairground attractions, sports such as wrestling but with old-school rules, and storytelling.
Pictures here come from the fayre held in 1981, but it was also staged in 1980 and 1982.
It was part of the revival of the East Anglian Fairs which had started in the 1970s, creating a series of seasonal and travelling events as part of what some experts called a “rural counterculture” at that time and part of a “back-to-the-land early green ethos”.
