People trying to trace their ancestors will be able to get some expert help at an open day taking place on Saturday.

The Alde Valley Family History Group is holding the event at the Long Shop Museum in Leiston from 11am to 4pm.

A variety of exhibits will be on show, including local graveyard surveys, war memorials, directories, parish registers, census returns, and old maps of the area, and researchers will be able to demonstrate use of the internet to help with research, give advice on sources, and help date any old family photos which people may bring along.

Di and Henry Mann will demonstrate use of timelines in writing and recording family history and Parham Airfield Museum will put on a display about Britain’s Secret Army, the hush-hush underground Second World War British Resistance Organisation, which was active in east Suffolk.

Entry free, but donations to the Long Shop appreciated.
