Suffolk butchers hosting their first mutton celebration say the event has helped raise awareness about an “undervalued” yet “delicious” meat.
Salter and King in Aldeburgh launched Mutton Week on Saturday with a carcass cutting demonstration from butcher Gerard King.
Mr King said he had organised the event to revive people’s taste for mutton. And with crowds gathering to watch his demonstrations, he said the start of the week had been “surprisingly popular”.
“It seems that people have been really open to trying new experiences and giving it a go,” he added.
Other Mutton Week festivities include special menus at the Brudenell and White Lion hotels, and a farm supper at White House Farm in Great Glemham on Thursday. Call 01728 452758 for details.
