Final preparations are being put in place for a seaside town’s annual maritime celebration.

Aldeburgh’s 71st carnival starts on Saturday - culminating with the main procession on Monday afternoon. This year’s theme of “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside” is sure to draw the crowds and inspire some imaginative floats. Carnival committee member Keith Batt said preparations were now in “top gear” and they were crossing their fingers for some fine weather as they looked forward to welcoming visitors.

The fun kicks off on Saturday with a carnival village, stalls on Crag Path and Moot Green, a traditional steam-driven galloper, sideshows, games and a children’s lollipop hunt.

Sunday’s fun begins with a mini marathon, followed by Punch and Judy, children’s land sports, egg boat race and a United Songs of Praise.

On Monday there are more children’s sports and - weather permitting - a lifeboat launch. The procession - led by carnival queen Hannah Osborne - will set off at 3.15pm, with the fun continuing into the evening.
