Crowds gathered outside Aldeburgh’s town hall on Sunday to celebrate the making of the new mayor.
Following a civic procession to St Peter and St Paul Church and a service led by Reverend Mark Lowther, Aldeburgh’s new mayor John Digby spoke of his enormous pride at taking up the role for the third time.
He said: “It is an incredible honour to represent this beautiful and historic town.
“Standing on the steps of this magnificent building, I feel a huge sense of pride in what Aldeburgh achieves.”
He praised town councillors and the clerk for their dedication to Aldeburgh.
He said: “Believe me, that is a very impressive and effective team which works hard to make this town so special.”
Mr Digby also thanked his wife, Jenny, for her support.
He said: “Jenny has been by my side on many civic occasions and the role of mayor wouldn’t be half as much fun without her support, advice and humour.”
