It is known for bringing a smile to children’s faces - but the fun might stop this half-term unless a popular circus can find props for one of its most popular routines.

Alex Morley Productions’ Fun Time Circus is due to head to Stonham Barns in February.

But a large supply of breakable crockery is needed to undertake one of the circus’ best known routines - and organisers struggling to find enough items to smash.

Mr Morley said: “Normally we can pick up plates from all over the place but for some reason this year seems different and we just haven’t been able to find supplies.”

As a result he hopes visitors to the show will be able to help the performers by donating old or unwanted plates for the cast to smash up.

“It would be a real shame to have to cancel the portion of the show,” said Mr Morley.

“It’s an age-old favourite routine which really chimes with the kids so if anyone has any unwanted plates it would really dig us out of a hole if they could bring them along on the 18th.”

The routine is an important part of the circus show and inspired Mr Morley’s catchphrase “don’t smash the plates”.

Those who bring along some crockery for the team to smash will be rewarded for their help with a £2 discount off their tickets for the show.

Those with plates to hand over should go to the theatre box office between 10am and 2pm on February 18.

There they will be able to meet Mr Morley and Mr James and drop off the previous cargo.

Only one plate discount is applicable per ticket.

“It will be a fantastic, fun-filled circus performance which is not to be missed,” said Mr Morley.

“But also please bring your plates along, we need them!”

As well as the plate routine the show will also feature illusionists, dancers, acrobats as well as comedy routines, a mascot character and Kevin the Minion from the Despicable Me film franchise.

Candy floss and popcorn will also be on offer at the show.

The show will be taking place at the AMP Theatre at the Stonham Aspal Complex between February 21 and 23.

Tickets for the show cost £10 per person.
