Bus replacements have been put in place between Ipswich and Felixstowe after a Greater Anglia train broke down, cancelling all services for the rest of the day.

Engineers have been unable to repair the damaged train which runs between the two Suffolk towns. The first services affected were the 2.58pm Ipswich to Felixstowe and 3.28pm Felixstowe to Ipswich.

Train operator Greater Anglia apologised and confirmed there are no spare trains to run the service.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day. The bus replacements will add around 30 to 40 minutes to journey times. The buses will not stop at Westerfield.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “We are currently unable to run services between Ipswich and Felixstowe due to a broken down train.

“Rail replacement buses are being used and passengers can also travel on First Suffolk’s 75, 76 and 77 services.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Anyone affected may be entitled to claim delay repay compensation http://www.greateranglia.co.uk/about-us/our-performance/delay-repay.”
