Solar panels are being floated on the surface of Alton Water to power a new algae-killing ultrasonic machine in the hope of reopening Suffolk Aqua Park.
The water park, and the wider Alton Water complex, was closed to the public at the weekend after an outbreak of potentially toxic blue-green algae
Anglian Water and the owners of the aqua park have since decided to attack the algal bloom with ultrasonic machinery, zapping the bacteria so it will sink.
The intense sunlight which has caused the algae to breed will now be harnessed by the floating solar rigs which will then power the devices.
One sonic device, capable of treating an area the size of two full-size football pitches, is already in the water, with another two to be placed in the lake this week.
Anglian Water have said that algae levels in the water have reduced slightly but are not attributing the drop to the ultrasonic barrage.
