A call handler from the region’s ambulance service has been shortlisted for a national award.

Emma Farkas, who is based in Chelmsford, works as a member of the East of England Ambulance Service’s emergency operations centre staff.

Thanks to her call helping a woman who had a breeched labour, she has made the final cut for The International Academy of Emergency Dispatch awards’ UK Dispatcher of the Year.

The award identifies and recognises individuals who have made the most significant contributions to further values and the mission of the academy through personal action.

Ms Farkas also joins Liam Harcourt, based in Norwich, and Lee Morgan, in Bedford, in the shortlist from the service.

Robert Morton, chief executive, said to the trio: “Congratulations to Emma, Liam and Jaymie-Lee for being shortlisted for this prestigious award. It is truly impressive given the enormity of the challenges you face daily.”

They will attend the ceremony in Cardiff tomorrow, along with other finalists from across the country, in the hope of being crowned winner.
