Paramedics escaped unharmed when their ambulance crashed into two deer on the A14 as they were answering a 999 call.

The crew was on their way to a non life-threatening emergency in Newmarket when the collision happened at around 3.30am this morning.

Police and medics were sent to the scene but an ambulance spokesman said the two paramedics were not injured.

“The ambulance was in collision with two red deer near Higham on the A14,” he said. “There was damage to the vehicle which was recovered from the scene. Thankfully the crew were unharmed.”

He added another ambulance attended the 999 call in Newmarket within the 20 minute target.
