According to reports the American Beauty star, who faces a string of allegations of sexual misconduct, is being replaced in his role in upcoming thriller All The Money In The World despite it director Ridley Scott having already finished it.

Flashback scenes were shot at the Grade II-listed stately home Elveden Hall in west Suffolk back in July, as the historic building doubled for a Moroccan palace.

At the time, a spokeswoman from Screen Suffolk said: “They (Ridley Scott’s production) said it was the perfect location for playing that role of a palace and it was just very, very easy to get to and work with.

“The work we did was providing accommodation for them, because they were filming during the height of summer, and we also had to help them out finding some of the crew.”

Now Mr Spacey, who was due to star alongside Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams in the film, is being replaced by fellow actor Christopher Plummer.

That’s according to reports made in the Hollywood Reporter, which also suggests veteran director Ridley Scott chose to remove Mr Spacey over recent allegations made against him.

The blockbuster, which retells the tale of the 1973 kidnapping of Getty’s grandson, had reportedly already been pulled as the closing night screening of the AFI (American Film Institute) Fest on November 16, at the British director’s insistence.

It is due for official release on December 22.

Scenes portraying US Mogul Jean Paul Getty are now said to be in the process of being re-filmed with Oscar-winning actor Mr Plummer.

Experts believe bosses could face a significant challenge in meeting All The Money in the World’s Christmas release date if several scenes need to be redone.

A spokesman for Mr Scott declined to comment.

The reported move, one which has been called unprecedented for a Hollywood film of this kind, comes after Netflix announced it was cutting ties with Mr Spacey.

He had starred in the streaming service’s political drama House of Cards, which is now without a central character. A biopic of US author Gore Vidal starring Mr Spacey has also been dropped in the wake of the allegations.
