Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of a large quantity of lead from the roof of a church in Cratfield.

St Mary’s Church was targeted sometime between 4.30pm on December 4 and 9.30am the following day.

Suspects stole what is estimated to be six tonnes of lead sheet from the church roof. The area affected measures 88 square metres.

The approximate scrap value is believed to be £4,500 although the cost of installing new lead is thought to be considerably higher.

Witnesses or anyone who saw any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area at the time should contact Suffolk police on 101.
