ANOTHER victim has died on Suffolk's roads - the second in a day.

A 20-year-old man was killed and five people were injured in a two-car collision on the B1113 in Badley, near Stowmarket, just before midnight.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 36-year-old man, provided a positive breath test before being taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment to a broken leg and broken arm.

The accident followed the death of a Big Issue seller in a collision on Hadleigh Road, Ipswich, at about 2.40am yesterday morning.

Fire crews from Needham Market, Stowmarket, Elmswell and Princes Street, Ipswich, were sent to the scene of last night's crash and firefighters used heavy cutting equipment to free some of the passengers.

The 20-year-old was the driver of a blue Ford Focus and was confirmed dead at the scene.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “Four patients were injured but alive. All were taken on long boards. One patient was trapped for a considerable amount of time.”

Suffolk Constabulary have issued a plea for witnesses to the crash to get in touch.

Anyone who can help the investigation can contact Pc Richard Godden of the force's serious collision investigation team on 01473 613500.

Meanwhile tributes were today paid to a Big Issue seller who was killed on Hadleigh Road.

The man, who can not yet be named as his next of kin are still to be traced, died after he was in collision with a blue VW Golf GTi.

Paramedics said he was already dead by the time they arrived at the scene of the tragedy, close to the entrance to Chantry Park.

The driver of the Golf, a 36-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. He was later released on police bail.

Today the pedestrian killed in the crash was remembered as “polite and thoroughly decent”.

Although he would collect copies of the Big Issue from the YMCA charity store in Ipswich's Westgate Street, he tended to sell the magazine in Hadleigh and Stowmarket.

YMCA store manager Tina Smith said: “I have been here for three years and he's been selling the Big Issue for all of that time.

“He kept himself to himself but he was a good-hearted person.”

Fellow Big Issue seller Liam Anglin added: “He was a great lad and always friendly but we didn't really know too much about him.

“He wasn't on drugs and I don't think he was an alcoholic - he was just trying to earn a living.”
