Armed men raid Suffolk home

Details of the incident, which happened on Friday night in Newmarket, have only just emerged.

The two men called at a house on Paget Place at around 10pm.

The male occupant answered the door and the men forced their way in.

They threatened the man and his female partner with a small axe and a large knife before demanding money.

A small black bag containing cash was handed over and the offenders ran out of the house onto Wyndham Way before getting in a silver car and fleeing towards the A14.

The first man is described as white, between 5ft6in and 5ft7in tall, of stocky build, in his late 20s with a round face and was wearing a black balaclava, a black jacket with a hood, black trousers and gloves.

The second man is described as white, 6ft1in tall, of slim build with a thin face and was wearing a black balaclava, a black jacket with a hood, black trousers and gloves. He was carrying a black rucksack.

The female occupant of the house was assaulted by one of the men and suffered a minor facial injury.

Detective Constable Claire Burgess appealed for anyone with information to 0get in touch.

“This was a very frightening incident for the couple and it is fortunate that the woman was not more seriously hurt,” she said.

“I would appeal for anyone who may have seen the silver car in the area before or after the burglary to get in touch, or anyone who may have any information about this incident.”
