AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a gun-wielding raider struck at a petrol station in Suffolk.

The incident happened at the Total garage on Melton Road, Woodbridge, just before 8pm tonight.

Police received a call from the garage saying a man had entered the premises and lifted up his coat, revealing what appeared to be the handle of a gun.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava type mask, did not fire any shots but stole a quantity of cash from the till before fleeing the scene.

It is believed the last sighting of him was running along Melton Road.

He has been described as being between 5ft 11 inches and 6ft 2 inches and thin in build. He was wearing jeans and a navy hooded top.

Inspector Bruce Gent, of Suffolk Constabulary, said: “Armed response units and dog handlers were sent and an extensive search has been made.

“We would appeal to anybody who was in the area at the time or who say anyone acting suspiciously to contact Suffolk police on 01473 613500.”
