Armed raiders strike in Witham

A WITHAM shop assistant was threatened by robbers and forced to hand over a large sum of cash.
The robber entered FADS Homestyle shop on Newland Street at around 5.30pm on Wednesday . He verbally threatened a female member of staff and made off with cash - a four-figure sum - from the shop safe.
The FADS employee, in her fifties, described the offender as white and in his early to mid-twenties. He is approximately 5ft 8ins inches tall, of stocky build, light brown short hair, and a rounded face. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a blue zip-up jacket.
There was no weapon involved and no-one was hurt.

The man escaped from the scene on foot although it is unclear which direction he took.
Local police, with help from the dog unit in Chelmsford, conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to track the man.

Police are encouraging anyone who was in the Newland Street and surrounding area between 5.15pm and 6.15pm to contact them on 01376 501212 with any information.
