Scores of art lovers flocked to Suffolk last weekend for an exhibition expected to raise more than £100,000 for charity.
Art for Cure returned to Glemham Hall from Saturday, May 5 to Monday, May 7 with a wide range of art work on show – and for sale – including fine art, sculpture and photography from dozens of artists, including some of the country’s greatest and boldest new talent.
The event was expected to attract around 10,000 visitors over the three days and organisers said they hoped it would raise more than £100,000 for breast cancer care and cutting-edge research.
A spokeswoman for the event said: “Since our first exhibition in 2014 Art For Cure has raised £300,000 through the sales of art and sculpture.
“When a purchase of an artwork or sculpture is made a proportion (50% for a painting, print or photograph and 30% for a sculpture) will go directly to our charity.
“Art For Cure contributes to vital national research projects via Breast Cancer Now (the UK’s leading breast cancer charity) as well as supporting selected services for those diagnosed with breast cancer, here in East Anglia.”
The event included a silent auction of canvasses donated from every artist, and huge scale and highly collectable work inspired by the travels of Claudia Legge.
Also on show was Bowie photography from the estate of the late Brian Duffy and Rolling Stones chic captured by internationally renowned Gered Mankowitz.
New for 2018 was BLUE DOT, a showcase gallery for new and emerging talent curated by Phoebe Pryor, while fine artists included Sara Johnson’s inspired abstract watercolours; Catherine Richardson’s monumental paintings of everyday moments; the sublime organic forms of Matt Maddocks’ outdoor sculpture; and the humane depictions of the human form in bronze by John O’Connor.
These together with signature works by Maggi Hambling, Henrietta Dubrey, and the eponymous coastal gulls from Suffolk favourite Jason Gathorne Hardy were all available to buy.
Other attractions included Peter Harrison cooking up a Middle Eastern feast, a colleague of Banksy showing how graffiti can inform and inspire, and an online auction of WOW Experiences.
