POLICE hunting axe-wielding robbers after a raid on a security van at Asda in Ipswich’s Stoke Park Drive have today released a picture of the getaway car in a bid for more information.

At about 8am yesterday two men, one armed with a small axe, threatened three security guards delivering cash to an ATM at the store.

The pair attempted to grab the cash box and a struggle ensued causing one of the guards to be injured.

The 34-year-old man was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he received stitches to an arm wound.

The first offending man is described as black, aged in his 20s, about 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins, and of slim build. He was wearing dark coloured clothing including a dark coloured hooded top.

The second man, who was carrying the small axe, is described as Asian, aged in his mid to late 20s.

He was about 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins, of slim build with a very slim face and stubble.

He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, grey jogging bottoms with a dark stripe on the legs, and dark coloured trainers.

The pair made off empty handed in an M registered grey or silver car with a large spoiler on the back.

The car is believed to be a Toyota Supra, index M558 EAH, which was stolen from Cardiff Avenue, Ipswich between 9.30pm on Tuesday and 7am the nex day.

The vehicle was advertised for sale and was parked in a layby in Scrivener Drive, opposite Cherry Blossom Close.

A member of the public discovered the car just before 4.15pm yesterday opposite a house in Elton Park, Hadleigh Road. It has now been recovered by police.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw this vehicle between 9.30pm on Tuesday and 4.15pm yesterday.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle with persons with it.

Detective Sergeant Darren Bruce of Ipswich CID said: “We have received a number of calls from the public in response to the media appeals and are following up on a number of lines of enquiry.

“CCTV is being trawled, statements are being obtained, and the recovered vehicle is being examined by scenes of crime officers. I urge anyone who may have seen anybody with the silver Toyota Supra between Tuesday and Thursday to get in touch immediately as they may hold vital information, which could assist with this enquiry.”

Any witnesses in the area at the time of the raid yesterday and anyone who recognises the man in the e-fit or the descriptions given is asked to contact police.

Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact DS Darren Bruce at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
