A WOMAN was found in a distressed state in Ipswich in the early hours of this morning, after what police believe may have been an assault.

A WOMAN was found in a distressed state in Ipswich in the early hours of this morning, after what police believe may have been an assault.

The 20-year-old female was found by a member of the public on Friars Street at around 1.30am.

She had suffered minor injuries and it is thought she may have been assaulted.

Police and ambulance attended the scene.

Currently inquiries are being made to establish what has happened and a cordon has been put up around an area on Civic Drive in relation to the incident.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen a female, either on her own or in the company of a male, on Civic Drive or Friar Street between 11.30pm last night and 1.30am to contact DS Tracey Cracknell at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.
