THIS picture shows the amazing moment a Newmarket firm's lorry was found hanging off the back of a passenger ferry.

The lorry is thought to have slid across the hold and forced open the rear door of the vessel travelling from Scotland to Northern Ireland.

The Clyde Coastguard said the lorry, owned by Turners haulage of Fordham, was hanging out of the rear of the ferry when it returned to the Scottish port of Stranraer.

Turners Ltd, a family-owned company which was founded in 1930 by Wallace and Frank Turner, said they would be commenting on the incident later today.

The company's website says it has 800 vehicles and 1,300 employees.

The coastguard was alerted and while no one was injured in the incident, passengers said they became concerned after hearing a loud bang at the rear of the vessel
