Acclaimed children’s author Julian Sedgwick has inspired young readers at King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds.

The writer gave an interactive performance involving the use of swords, magic and circus skills based on his ‘Mysterium’ and ‘Ghosts of Shanghai’ trilogies at King Edward VI School.

During his visit, which helped marked Libraries Week at the school, he inspired triplets Alice, Catherine and Heather Kirby-Green’s love for creative writing and reading.

Heather was drawn to his writing as she feels there is little for young adults to read on the theme of ghosts and Catherine has written a book herself called ‘Whispers in the Dark’, which is also based on the theme of the supernatural. Alice likes to read, and is keen to get her hands on Julian’s ‘Ghosts of Shanghai’,which he signed for the girls.

Librarian Bridget McMillan said: “We are honoured that Julian visited our school. Our students enjoy reading and our school library is always busy. Encouraging and inspiring our youngest readers to write creatively is just so important.”
