St Mary’s in Badwell Ash, near Walsham le Willows, was left counting the cost after stained glass dating to the 14th century was broken in a suspected rifle attack in August. About 12 vehicles were also targeted near the church in the spate of criminal damage.

Today (October 20) the 700-year-old church is holding an open day, including tower tours, to raise the vital funds needed to repair the windows, as well the leaky roof. In total, they need to make nearly £1,300.

The open day is on until 4pm and will include a World War One exhibition and the chance to look at village record books.

Previously, churchwarden Stephen Rose said the damage to the church was “really disheartening”.

It followed a number of break ins of the donation box earlier this year.

The church is unable to use insurance to repair the damage to the glass due to the high excess.
