A lorry driver arrested in connection with a crash which killed a tractor driver from north Essex has been released on bail.

The tractor driver, a man in his 60s from the Colchester area, died in the collision on the A13 flyover at Pitsea on Monday afternoon.

A silver Citroen Despatch van was also involved in the crash between an HGV towing a trailer and the tractor at 1.30pm.

The tractor driver was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, after the incident but died of multiple injuries.

Essex Police arrested the lorry driver, a man in his 60s from Lancashire, after he received hospital treatment for slight injuries on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Yesterday he was bailed until January 18 pending further enquiries.

The van driver was treated for slight injuries.

Both carriageways of the flyover were closed until about 10.30pm for a police investigation, vehicle recovery and repairs.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police or anyone with information about events leading to the collision should contact Pc Jenny Pirie at the Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
