A six-year-old Suffolk schoolgirl has run a marathon distance to raise £1,500 to help provide care for terminally ill children.

Bailey Collins, of Tannington, who goes to Sir Robert Hitcham CEVA Primary School in Framlingham, has run a series of 1.2-mile parkruns for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

After being inspired by her grandad, a passionate runner, she has since taken part in 21 of the events, meaning she has covered the distance of a marathon in total.

Bailey’s proud mum Kelly said: “Bailey decided she wanted to give money to charity and we said she could give her pocket money or raise money herself that would amount to more than she could give.

“She decided to support EACH as it’s a charity backed by Tannnington Transport. Her dad is transport manager, so some weekends are spent taking lorries that have EACH graphics on to different events.”

Bailey takes part in the Kesgrave Junior parkrun most Sundays. She has spoken to her classmates about what she has been up to and why, helping raise awareness of EACH.

Kelly said: “We’re exceptionally proud of Bailey making such a difference at only six years old. She’s often run when she’s been full of cold or not feeling herself - even on frosty mornings Bailey was there. She’s now already thinking of her next fundraising event!”
