Buses will replace trains for part of the journeys between East Anglia and London over the bank holiday weekend.

The buses will run between Ipswich and Ingatestone on August 25, 26 and 27 as Network Rail engineers replace track at Colchester station and lay about 3km of new track between Manningtree and Ardleigh.

After that there will be disruption every weekend during September and on several weekends in October and November as Network Rail engineers continue laying new track in Essex.

This year’s track work is different to recent autumns – much of it is happening in the Colchester area rather than further south although later in the autumn it does switch back to the line between Shenfield and Liverpool Street.

Meliha Duymaz from Network Rail said: “We are carrying out a vast amount of work this bank holiday and over the autumn to make crucial improvements as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan.
