POLICE have cordoned off part of Mildenhall's town centre following a bank robbery.
The incident happened shortly before midday at the Barclays Bank in High Street.
Details of the robbery have not been released by police.
A 33-year-old man from Mildenhall has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody at Bury St Edmunds police station.
A police spokeswoman said officers were still in Mildenhall and an alleyway in North Terrace had been cordoned off.
Mildenhall resident John Barker told how there were six police cars in North Terrace and described how he saw officers searching the area.
He also told how Barclays had a sign in the window explaining how it was currently shut due to “circumstances beyond our control”.
He said the police helicopter was circling above Mildenhall shortly after the robbery.
