A BARMAID from Ipswich is recovering today after she fell down the stairs and banged her head.

Paramedics were called to a house in Cumberland Street where they found the woman, known only as Tina, covered in blood.

She was taken to Ipswich Hospital at around 1am, where she required stitches, and remains in a satisfactory condition.

Tina, who is thought to live with her sister, worked as a barmaid at The Brewer's Arms for eight years until recently.

Landlord Shaun de Silva, who stills knows her, said: “Her injuries aren't as bad as people first thought.

“The police think that she fell down the stairs and banged her head on the bottom. She has had stitches in her head, but she is OK.

“She is supposed to be coming out of hospital today.”

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: “It has been determined that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's injuries.

“A cordon has been lifted in Cumberland Street and there will be no further police involvement in the incident.”

Her next-door neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said the woman fell accidentally, but she did want to comment further.

Other neighbours said the woman, who apparently also lives with two children, had been dropped off home at about 11pm the previous evening.

But they said they had not been woken by the drama and were only aware of an incident when they saw police cars outside the house in the morning.
