AT two-years-old, young Harriet Bradbury cannot see much of the world around her.

The happy youngster was born with Albinism, a condition which has affected her sight and means she cannot see many of the wonderful things other toddlers take for granted.

But Harriet’s mother, Rosie Bradbury, is staging a 10km run to raise funds for vital equipment which could help the brave youngster experience her surroundings for the first time.

Harriet suffers from Albinism, a condition which results in a lack of pigmentation, melanin, in the skin, hair and eyes, which has given the plucky tot white hair and affected her sight.

But Mrs Bradbury, who lives in Barningham, is organising a fun day and 10km run on Saturday, September 10 to help raise 4,000 to buy an iPad and FarView device to help Harriet see pictures on a large screen she can sit close to.

Although Harriet will be able to access the kit when she gets to school, Mrs Bradbury fears her daughter could lose her key learning years if she has to wait.

“We support Harriet when needed but encourage her to live a normal as possible lifestyle,” she said.

“She is a very determined character but can get frustrated at times.

“We have to bring the World to Harriet, she can’t embrace it at once.

“This equipment could make normal life accessible for her.”

Families, friends and supporters are being invited to run, walk or jog a 10km course at Barningham Cricket Field next month.

All participants will receive a goody bag courtesy of Trinity Construction Services and the first three runners over the finish line will also get a special prize.

As well as the challenge, there will be food stalls, nearly new toys and clothes, games, entertainment and cream teas at the fun day to help boost funds for Harriet’s appeal.

Visitors can enjoy a bouncy castle, a human fruit machine, a chocolate fountain and Pimms tent for the adults at the event, which runs from 10am to 2pm.

A creative sand art competition and welly boot throwing contest should also keep supporters entertained.

“We have had a great response,” Mrs Bradbury said. “It has been brilliant.

“The run is a really good way of bringing people together.

“The community are all willing to help.

“I hope it will be a nice day.”

Further money raised on the day will go to help other children with a visual impairment receive magnifiers and IT equipment before school age to use at home and when they are out and about.

Registration for the race is 8 in advance, available by emailing barningham10k@yahoo.co.uk or calling 01359 220142.
